Aloha, I'm Dr. Laura-Beth Fitzpatrick, a psychologist licensed in Hawai'i and an EMDRIA Certified Therapist™. I offer EMDR therapy by secure video to adults anywhere in Hawai'i, whether you're on O'ahu, Maui, Kaua'i, Hawai'i Island, Moloka'i or Lāna'i.
Hawai'i is part of how I trained. I completed my APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship with I Ola Lāhui, Rural Hawai'i Behavioral Health, working in Honolulu, Aiea and Kahuku, and I've held my Hawai'i license alongside my California license ever since.
If a trauma specialist is hard to find close to home, online sessions mean you don't have to travel, or leave the island, to work with one.
What EMDR can help with
EMDR is one of the most thoroughly researched therapies for trauma and PTSD. In my practice, I often use it with people working through:

- The lasting effects of a difficult or unstable childhood

How online EMDR works
The same therapy, by video
We meet through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform and use eye movements or tapping, just as we would in the office. In my experience, EMDR works well in both settings, and early research on online EMDR is encouraging.

A private, quiet space and a stable internet connection. We'll plan together how to stay grounded if something feels like too much.

Ways to work together
Weekly sessions
Most clients meet weekly for 55 minutes. We start with preparation, so you have the grounding skills you need before any processing begins. See Getting Ready for EMDR.
EMDR intensives
Longer, concentrated sessions for a focused piece of work. Intensives are held in person at my office in San Diego, so they can be planned around a visit. Learn more about EMDR intensives.
Fees and insurance
I'm an out-of-network provider, and I use Thrizer to submit claims to your insurance for you. Reimbursement depends on your plan. See fees.
